| У статті розглядаються лінгвокогнітивні основи засобів вербалізації концепту ТАЄМНИЦЯ в сучасній англійській мові. У статті виокремлено й систематизовано відповідні концептуальні моделі через аналіз номінацій цього концепту в англомовній художній прозі XX–XXI століть. Аналіз матеріалу показав, що можливим є осмислення таємниці як об’єкта, яке супроводжується висвітленням його фізичних параметрів та перцептивних ознак, контейнера, що перешкоджає пізнанню, або істоти (особи, тварини чи міфічної істоти). Дослідження таємниці як динамічної інформаційної системи акцентує роль енерго-інформаційних взаємодій, у контексті яких таємниця розглядається як сила, що детермінує діяльність суб’єкта, або атрактор, який визначає розвиток системи, а її розв’язання концептуалізується як ентропійний чинник, котрий зумовлює її трансформацію. Acknowledging the pivotal role of language in allowing access to mental processes of an individual within the framework of modern linguistics has brought forth a plethora of studies centering on various aspects of conceptualizing and categorizing the environment. However, the conceptual premises of the verbal representations of MYSTERY in English as yet remain to be determined. Thus, the present article is aimed at delineating and systematizing the corresponding conceptual models (image schemas and conceptual metaphors), utilizing the toolkit of cognitive linguistics. The analysis of the designations of MYSTERY in the 20 th – 21 st century fiction testifies to the mental reworking of the ontological status of this phenomenon, whereby it can be represented as an OBJECT , CONTAINER , or a LIVING BEING . Conceiving of MYSTERY as an OBJECT entails highlighting its physical state, perceptual parameters, or internal structure as well as the changes of these characteristics. The CONTAINER metaphor actualizes the relevant spatial coordinates and perspectival relations between the unknown and the observer whereas regarding mystery in terms of a LIVING BEING results in ascribing to it the prototypical features of a human, an animal or a mythical creature. The investigation of mystery as a dynamic system of information interactions sheds light on the energy/power interactions which propel its evolution and contributes to the general system theoretic studies of conceptual and language phenomena. | ||
